Aquamec Marine Sea Urchin Farms

Aquamec marine has embarked on an ambitious project to develop an integrated sea urchin and seaweed farming system that will enable the production of high quality sea urchin roe.

Sea urchins require seaweeds as a food source and we have identified several species that contribute significantly to the quality of the product.

These seaweeds will be grown on a rope system on a 6-hectare marine farming lease and fed to sea urchins contained in cages.

It is expected to produce sea urchins with a roe recovery in excess of 15%.
